Baba Marta
March 01, 2011Google logo today in the form of two twisted threads in red and white refers to an old Bulgarian tradition related to welcoming the upcoming spring. Today people here in Bulgaria exchange small adornments of white and red yarn. The common belief is that by wearing the red and white colors of martenitsa people ask Baba Marta for mercy to make winter pass faster and bring spring. White as a color symbolizes purity, red is a symbol of life and passion and in combination correspond to the constant cycle of life and death, the balance of good and evil, and of the sorrow and happiness in human life.
